Film Review- Edits

Image
Hey gang! This is a follow up of my last blog. Camila and I have taken the notes Lyne gave us on our film and applied the changes to the movie. We are so thankful she was able to help us out. It really means a lot, and we would do the same if she needed it, so overall we both feel a lot of gratitude for her feedback.      Our first edit was our use of a knife in the kitchen and the situation regarding the cake. We decided that out of all the scenes to cut to make the film shorter, Lyne was correct. We didn't need to include all of the cutting and making of the ingredients. We also did not need to see much of the cake after we placed it in the oven. We think that this could add to the mysteriousness of the film, as we have no idea how the oven really never turned off after us assuringly "taking out the cake".      The next edit made was to the sounds. We decided the addition of another song would add to the ambiance more, and wouldn't leave so much sil...

Film Review- Peer

Image
Hey gang!       Today, after Camila and I finished our film we asked one of our friends to watch it and give us some critiques. Lyne, our friend, gave back some good notes that Camila and I looked at. We also watched the final film with her and made some notes on how to edit it as well.       One of the first things pointed out, was the time of our film. Our film was a bit too long and that was the first thing Lyne pointed out to us. She gave us a few suggestions on how to help fix this however. Her first suggestion was the baking scene. We wanted to include the use of a knife in the scene, as a symbol for the thriller movie, however these scenes just took too much of the time up. Lyne said she would take out any scenes of baking that come after we put the cake in the oven. Camila and I took note of this.      Another point was on our usage of sound effects, and possibly add another copyright free soundtrack, to add to the ambiance...

Production Blog- Additional information!

Image
What's up gang? I'll go over all the planning and props we needed to get for our movie in this blog post. Originally, we used items that we already had as props. For instance, we used a box of crayons that I had at my house for the movie's drawing sequences. We intended for the crayons to appear used because she brought a brand-new box of them. To give them a worn-out appearance, we tore off some of the paper wrapping and fractured some of the larger pieces. We wanted our outfits to be straightforward and informal. This is so since our film is set within a house, therefore elaborate clothes are not necessary. We wanted the spectator to get the impression that the characters were at ease and relaxed. We intended for Santiago to sport shorts and a t-shirt to highlight how casual the movie is. Although most of the film was supposed to be shot at night, several of the scenes were actually recorded in the day. The majority of these sequences took place in kitchens.  To make it ...

Production Blog- Soundtrack

Image
What's up gang?    Today, Camila and I found our soundtrack for our final film project. I find that it fits the Thriller genre perfectly. We searched for royalty free music on Youtube for our music. We were looking for music that had words such as "creepy, horror, and haunted". We found a playlist of worthy soundtracks that could add to our ambiance of the film, and we decided on one of them.     We decided on royalty free music instead of copyrighted music to save us some time. We wanted to be able to pick our music, without the hassle of needing to email a request. We decided on a copyright free music, titled, "It's in the Fog", by @DarrenCurtisMusic, on Youtube.  I find of all the music we reviewed on Youtube, this music would fit our situation the best. The plan is for the first half of the film to only have the background sounds, such as the Television, the drawing, and the kitchen sounds. During the title sequence, the beginning of this music wi...

Production Blog- Editing Galore!

Image
What's up gang?    Today will be the final touch ups to our film, and the leading into our soundtrack. Asking for permission for certain soundtracks can be a bit of a task, so forgive me for keeping on putting off finishing it all together. Today, we went through our film as a whole, and how it looks, and we planned for where to enter in certain sound tracks, and if we should add in certain special effects, or do reshoots. We decided that a few of our long and close up shots should be redone, and we also chose where to place sound effects. The shots we decided to redo were ones that did not include Santiago, the little boy we are babysitting. This is because we don't have the luxury of being able to see him at all times. We decided that all the shots including him were proficient though. We mostly needed more reshoots done in the kitchen. Specifically, a long shot of Camila and I in the kitchen, and a few closeups of our baking. Although it may seem like a hassle to redo...

Production Blog- Editing Day Three!

Image
What's up gang? Camila and I finished up our editing today, although more work is still to be done. Before today, we had finished the ordering of the clips and putting them together. We made sure that they were cropped enough so each clip would flow into each other. After this, we added in the titles needed. Each title assigned to each clip needed a different size according to what the contents of the shot were. However, the font remained the same in each clip. At the end of our last blog, we stated that we would be looking for our soundtrack currently. We have decided to leave that for a bit longer, as we are finding trouble finding the perfect sounds for it. We are also having issues trying to mute certain clips, so we decided due to technical difficulties, the addition of music could wait. We dedicated the editing today to the editing of the filters to go over certain shots. In Thriller movies, there are usually the same looks of certain shots. The scariest, most suspenseful sh...
